Civil War Veteran and Daughter of American Revolution. This listing is for the husband and wife pair of cabinet cards, taken by the photographer "Oliver" in Harrisburg, Illinois.

Each measures 4.25 inches x 6.5 inches. Red "nikkimerguzhis" marking is only visible through this listing and it not on original pictures. John Andrew Burgner is wearing a sack coat with domed buttons and his Grand Army of The Republic medal for his service as a Union soldier during the Civil War.

He and his unit were at the signing of the surrender of Robert E Lee and his army at Appomattox Court House. His wife, Julia Ann Burgner, is wearing a beautiful silk dress with collar, broach, floral cockade and her Daughters of The American Revolution medal. Organized at Philadelphia September and October, 1864. Moved to Deep Bottom Landing, Va. Attached to 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 10th Army Corps, Army of the James, to December, 1864.

1st Brigade, 1st Division, 24th Army Corps, to July, 1865. Duty in trenches before Richmond, Va. Appomattox Campaign March 28-April 9. Assaults on Forts Gregg and Alexander April 2.

Pursuit of Lee April 3-9. Surrender of Lee and his army. Consolidated with 188th Pennsylvania Infantry June 28, 1865. Regiment lost during service 2 Officers and 30 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 52 Enlisted men by disease. Oct 1834 Lebanon Co PA m.

About 1854 to John Andrew Burgner b'Jan'31 Lebanon Co PA. Emigrated to Saline County Ill about 1870. John served in CW as a sgt with I Co.
