Historic Schuylkill Arsenal built in 1800 at Gray's Ferry, Philadelphia was the staging area for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It remained active in the production of everything from uniforms to regimental flags and throughout the Civil War when it employed 10.

An Original Ration return for the 7th US Veteran Volunteers issued at Schuylkill Arsenal December, 1865, listing the numbers of men and women issued rations. The Return is signed by Captain John Exton, 7th USVV. Comes w service info- Captain Exton rose through the ranks of the 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, the largest regiment in the Civil War, and saw some heavy fighting at Petersburg, the 7th losing over 430 men at the Battle of Chafin's Farm alone. 1p 11 x 7 ptd/ink, w minor edge wear age stains, Overall VG.
