This is GAR Commander, General Thomas J. Stewarts personal Gold Presentation Medal.
It was presented to him at the National G. The medal is solid 14K gold (15 Grams) and engraved Presented to Thos. Stewart by his Comrades and Friends attending Nat.
The medal is 1 by 3 inches and is housed in a small leather folding case. The Medal and case both show signs of wear and age. However the medal and its ribbon are still very attractive. Included is a letter from 1914 asking for the Generals autograph.The letter is boldly signed by the General. Stewart Medal was authorized for use by the Pennsylvania National Guard. The 1931 version of this Medal as well as the modern version of this medal is also included in this sale.
There is more then enough information on line about Gen. A bronze statue of him is in the State Capital Building.
He was the adjutant general for the Great State of Pennsylvania and commander in chief of the G. Stewart Memorial Armory as well as the Thomas J. Stewart High School in Norristown PA are named after him.
