The following item is an authentic Gettysburg relic desk set created by Gettysburg resident John Good. Good was one of the earliest known makers of Gettysburg Battlefield relic desk sets. He was a cabinet maker whose shop was on Race Horse Alley just off of Chambersburg Street in Gettysburg. All of the relic desk sets that he created were adorned with relics recovered from The Gettysburg Battlefield. Most of these were very early recoveries when the relics were still plentiful.

As with all early relic desk sets, the makers would always nail the relics to the display. This one has 12 relics recovered from the battlefield. The main piece to the display is a model 1826 eagle breast plate. Along with the plate are a number of. 58 caliber minie balls, a dropped sharps, a large canister shot, two musketballs, an infantry I cuff button, a Colt revolving rifle bullet and a. This is one of the nicer sets we have encountered. Many are usually missing a piece or two with those usually being replaced. This one is all original and is intact. These have become extremely rare and you almost never see them on the market anymore.

Most are put away in Gettysburg collections. These were very popular in the years following the battle before the turn of the century. Many did not survive, especially in complete condition.
