It contains detailed descriptions on the campaigns and battles, but also provides insights into the actions of subordinate units as well.

The book discussed more than just the Shiloh battle; it also contains actions in Kentucky, at Fort Donelson, Bowling Green, Nashville, Pittsburg Landing, troop movements, Louisville, Frankford, Perryville, Murfreesborough, Stone River, Tullahoma, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Hood's Tennessee Campaign with insights into the battles of Spring Hill, Franklin, Nashville and the pursuit, and in East Tennessee. This is doubtlessly one of the very best unit histories of the western theater. The book also contains a list of casualties in action and a roster of all enlistments of the Regiment. It contains a complete Order of Battle of forces from by the Union and Confederate sides for the battle of Shiloh and includes representative reports from key commanders of all the armies that were engaged in the battle of Shiloh, including Generals W. Sherman, Buell, McCook, General Beauregard, etc.

Handsomely illustrated with photos and portrait illustrations. THIS BOOK IS IN NEAR FINE CONDITION This scarce, antique book is in excellent overall condition, but has some spotting to the spine. The book is bound in maroon, textured covers with decorative, lined highlights on the cover and with impressed, blind stamped, gold lettering on the spine. The lettering is faded a bit, but remains clean and readable.

The exterior is clean with no bumping or edge wear. The binding is solid throughout the book; it has no looseness or lean and both hinges are fine.

The interior is clean and the pages are in excellent condition. The book has no writing, smudging, stamps, pasteboards, foxing or other markings.

It is not an ex-library book. The book is loaded with photos, illustrations and maps; casualty rosters; unit rosters; unit histories; monuments, etc.

The book also has excellent, large maps with terrain, and unit locations for both sides. The casualty roster includes losses killed and wounded in action during the term of service of the unit and includes the full name, rank, company, date, battle and nature of wounds of each soldier. The comprehensive unit roster provides information on the Field and Staff Officers as well as the rank and file, and is organized by company providing the name, rank, date of muster, term of enlistment, and remarks wounds, promotions, assignments, POWs, discharge dates, etc.
