Notes on the Rebel Invasion of Maryland and Pennsylvania at the Battle of Gettysburg July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 1863. Accompanied by an Explanatory Map by M. Philadelphia, 1864, folding chromolithograph frontis map of Gettysburg Battlefield, 47 pp, tan blind stamped cloth, 7.5 x 5, 12mo.

Severely soiled, damp stained and worn. Rippling to surface of cloth with bubbling on the rear board. Color has leeched away from the cloth from age and wear. Spine perished with loss at head and tail.

Old hand ownership of George S. Seaught has signed the fly as well with his occupation "Dentist" Carlisle, PA dated May 24th, 1864. Andrew Brown has signed the fly as well with his address in Carlisle. George has signed the second end paper and the rear pastedown as well. The fly is torn at top edge.

Folding frontis fragile and torn, intact despite flaws. Moderate foxing throughout with age staining and small instances of ink blotches.

1st edition of Jacob's primary eyewitness report of the Battle of Gettysburg. Michael Jacobs was a clergyman and professor of mathematics at the Pennsylvania College (now Gettysburg) in 1863 when he witnessed the Battle of Gettysburg. His notes are among the earliest and best eyewitness accounts of the battle. His first account starts on June 20th, 1863 when the townspeople were warned to arm themselves and to be ready at a moment's warning, for the defense of their homes and of the state. " On July 1st, he reports that General Reynolds was "shot through the head.

He describes the scenes of the battlefield on July 3rd with grisly precision.
